Ganglion cyst

A ganglion cyst is a lump on the back of your wrist caused by a herniation, or out-pouching, of your carpal joint capsule, which often develop as a result of habitually overloading your wrist.

It’s also known as a "Bible cyst" because in the past hitting and rupturing the cyst with a Bible was a common treatment, but this is not a good idea because it can cause further damage.

Due to your body's self-repair mechanisms up to 50% of ganglion cysts disappear by themselves. Osteopathic treatment is a conservative option that aims to stimulates your body's repair mechanisms. Identifying excessive loads acting on the wrist is important to recovery and preventing recurrence.

Invasive treatment includes needle aspiration, which is a non-surgical option but is associated with a higher recurrence rate than surgery, which is associated with more complications.
