Pregnancy
It's well known that your body undergoes profound physical changes as pregnancy progresses. But that doesn't mean you must put up with a wide range of unpleasant or disabling symptoms including ongoing pain, numbness, swelling, cramping and indigestion.
It's widely underappreciated that how you habitually sit, stand, sleep and generally use and hold your body can make the difference between experiencing symptoms and not.
It's also important to appreciate that the position of your baby and the space available to it may adversely affect your baby's growth and development. Your baby can find itself stuck in an awkward position, which can lead to your baby being strained. A baby with a strained neck, for example, might find it more difficult to effectively negotiate the birth canal, making labour more difficult, longer and more risky. A baby in pain can turn what should be a delight into weeks, months or years of a living nightmare.
Our practitioners at Darwin Osteopathy have many years of experience in treating pregnant women. Osteopathic treatment includes soft tissue work, stretching and gentle manipulation of the bones and muscles to promote mobility, increase tissue strength and improve your circulation, helping prepare your body for the demands of labour.
