Schuermann's disease
Excess pressure on your mid-back during your bone growth years, up to the age of eighteen, can result in significant deformities of your spinal joints, discs and vertebra, leading to an often-painful “hunchback” condition know Schuermann's disease.
The condition usually becomes noticeable during puberty between the ages of 13-16 years. Studies show affected teenagers are often taller than comparably aged peers. This could be a result of stooping over school desks that are too small for them and a habit of stooping while engaging with their peers in order to lessen their “difference”.
A combination of physical, emotional, mental and/or social factors are often underlying causes of the excess muscle tension and compression placed on the spine.
